Nour Asalia is an artist and researcher whose work focuses on the bodies of humans and animals. In Couture, Asalia uses fragile, transparent materials, conveying vulnerability and a hint of violence, a theme that underlies many of her pieces. Inspired by her father’s embalming of small creatures and insects, she states that she imitates her father’s work, mummifying the face and possibly going beyond to mummify the moment.
Asalia graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University in 2006 and obtained a Master’s degree in Aesthetics and History of Contemporary Arts from Paris VIII University in 2013.Her work is in public and private collections internationally and has been included in numerous exhibition venues, including the Atassi Foundation, Galerie Tanit and Biennale de Sculpture de Yerres. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Syrian Cultural Caravan.
