Bady Dalloul is a French-Syrian multimedia artist. Through the lens of sociopolitics and history, his work confronts the notion of what is real and imagined while challenging the process of writing history. The “King of the System” series focuses on the complexity of facing one’s destiny. In King of the System 1,men and women are depicted as attempting to master their destinies in daily life, yet achieving no success.
In King of the System 3, Dalloul connects young men fleeing poverty and conscription in the Ottoman Empire during the 20th century with the contemporary emigration of young men from Africa in search of opportunities abroad. Both groups are driven by the will of survival, making success their only choice.
Dalloul graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2015 with honours from the jury. His work has been exhibited at the MAC/VAL (2017), the Arab World Institute, the Gulbenkian Foundation (2018), the Palais de Tokyo (2020) and IVAM of Valencia (2020). His work is part of the collections of the Arab Museum of Modern Art (Mathaf) Qatar, MAC/VAL, the Kadist Foundation, the Frac Île-de-France and the Institut du Monde Arabe.
