Untitled Topography 2023 – The Salt Lake series comprises five distinct artworks—one large work and four smaller ones, contributing to an interconnected narrative. These pieces are meticulously crafted on Arches watercolor paper, with each one resembling a salt lake landscape adorned with expressive, gestural accents. The central image inside each frame is taken from pictures of a salt lake in the artist’s archival images of aerial topographies taken from NASA. The lines, abbreviations, and hand shaped engraving are done with mixed media including pencil, charcoal, and salt. Al Oraibi’s work unveils the impact of human intervention, as it showcases the transformation of the region’s surroundings, highlighting the dynamic interplay between water formation and human activity.
Al Oraibi holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Bahrain and is a member of the Bahrain Fine Arts Society. He was awarded the first prize at the Qatari Diar Art Symposium, special recognition at the 32nd Annual Plastic Arts exhibit at Bahrain’s National Museum, and the Silver Palm from the seven GCC art exhibitions in Kuwait. He participated in artist residencies in Paris, London, and New York, most notably at Cite International des Arts and Delfina Foundation in London.
