She works primarily with photography, text, sound, and installations. On display are two works from Ali’s ongoing series of self-portraits. In them she casts herself both as the protagonist and the director behind the camera, transporting herself to different places and transforming into different characters. In these works, she uses her body as a way to reclaim her own narrative and presence as an Arab woman. In many ways, Ali’s work is in dialogue with architecture, film, performance, and literature, where she creates a sense of space and time altered through imagination.
Ali’s work intertwines gender and socio-political ideologies to question the intricate Khaleeji (Arabian peninsula) culture, societies, and women's representations. She was a Single Image winner at the British Journal of Photography 2020 Female in Focus Awards. Her previous clients include Ffotogallery Wales, BMW, Adidas, and The Standard Hotel, among others.
