Amir Hazim is a Baghdad-born artist whose practice extends across numerous mediums including sculpture, painting, installation art, and especially photography. A self-taught photographer, his trademark black and white photography and his understanding of light and shadow have become a signature of his practice. However he also often experiments with vibrant colors, exploring narratives in post-2003 Baghdad, local urban culture, the fragility of humanity, and Iraq’s social history and landscapes. Hazim’s series Above the Damage documents the youth-led protest movement, also known as the 2019 October Revolution, on the streets of Baghdad.

Hazim has participated in exhibitions in the Middle East and Europe, including Seven x Seven, Middle East Now Festival, Murate Art District, Florence, Italy (2021), Gulf Photo Plus, Dubai, UAE (2020), and the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad University (2019). His photographs have been featured on CNN and in the Wall Street Journal, Brooklyn Rail, Arab News, Arab Weekly, Middle East Eye, The National, Al-Bawaba, al-Bayan, Tribe magazine, and Mille World, among others.
